Christopher Nolan’s new epic movie will have the bulk of it shot on the island where scholars think Homer conceived the Odyssey, in the 8th century BC. Nick-named the goat island, the whole crew was welcomed with a huge goat BBQ.
Sicily plays a significant role in The Odyssey as it is associated with some of the most memorable and dangerous encounters Ulysse faces during his journey home. Although Homer does not explicitly name Sicily, it is commonly linked to key mythological locations in the epic:
- Land of the Cyclopes – The island where Ulysse and his men encounter Polyphemus, the one-eyed Cyclops, is often identified with Sicily. This encounter is crucial to the story because Ulysse blinds Polyphemus and, in doing so, incurs the wrath of Poseidon, Polyphemus’ father. This divine anger extends Ulysse’ journey and causes much of his suffering.
- Island of the Sun God (Thrinacia) – This island, believed by some to be Sicily, is where Ulysse’ men slaughter the sacred cattle of Helios despite his warnings. As punishment, Zeus destroys their ship with a thunderbolt, killing everyone except Ulysse, who barely survives.
- Sicily, being centrally located, represents both an obstacle and a crucial turning point in Ulysse’ long voyage. It is where he faces challenges that test his cunning, leadership, and ability to resist temptation.

The shooting of the movie is also planed to take place in the Aeolians islands, in Greece, and in Morocco, with a long list of movie stars which includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal. Matt Damon will embody Ulysse, Tom Holland will portray his son Telemachus (stolen photo bellow), Robert Pattinson will be Poseidon with his trident, Charlize Theron will seduce the Ulysse, as Calypso, and Zendaya will be Athena, protector of Ulysse on his journey home.
